Two words: breakfast burrito. Green chile. Bacon. Eggs. What is not to love. If I could have breakfast burritos from Baking Co. every day till I die, I would.

I stopped in for breakfast and a spot of coffee both were good but not great. I had high hopes for this place since most of my friends love it. The sausage patty was dry and the home fries were over cooked and greasy. The apple pastry however was delicious and the portion was enough for two. The staff was friendly and quick to assist.

Visiting my hometown for a few days so we are trying out several restaurants. This bakery cafe was perfect after 2 days of green chili on everything! The BLT with avocado and side salad with balsamic was yummy. They don't skimp on the bacon and the ambiance is cool where nothing matches but somehow it all works as a very pleasant, local place with lots of seating in and out with umbrellas. Big giant cookies, brownies and croissants. Bought a whole pumpkin pie to take to my Aunt who lives here. Hubs had a giant veggie burrito with black beans and potatoes and, of course, smothered with the good green stuff that always tastes better here (even when we make it the same way at home!) I would probably eat here several times a week if I lived here.

My omelet smelled like a foot but it tasted okay. I ate it. The potatoes that came with it smelled like old laundry. I tried a little of them, then abandoned the project. I love potatoes. This was a crime against everything that they are. The espresso tasted stale. I didn't drink much of that. How is it even possible to get stale coffee beans in New Mexico? FYI for anyone who isn't sure, yes you should leave a few bucks for the bussers. I did. The smelly, weird food isn't their fault.

Food is really good here and the menu is large enough to please almost everyone (I am vegan) across the board. We also really like spicy food and the chili and guacamole were excellent. This is also a real locals place and prices are reasonable. The reason I am giving 3 stars is that the bathrooms are filthy and the general restaurant seating areas are also filthy. Would be nice to see a bit of an upgrade in cleanliness.

Stopped in Santa Fe for business, my husband had eaten here before years ago - looks like there's a new owner who was rude when placing our order. The green chili is gravy with a tad of green chili - not very New Mexican - I gave the two stars for the blue corn pancakes -

THIS is a good place to grab breakfast or lunch. I almost always get the green chili pork stew. Get in line. Order your food. Pay. Sit down. The food will come to your table. The food is classic diner food.

I used to like this place just for the coffee and wifi. I really don't enjoy the food anymore and the place just seems filthy. Flies everywhere.

Cute spot to grab a bite to eat at! They have everything from breakfast burritos to turkey burgers and a juice bar. Really bright and open atmosphere, adorable little place. This might be my new favorite joint to hit up when I'm in Santa Fe. Plus, you know a baking company is cool when they use one of their bread boxes to house a Linux computer that you're allowed to use!

I used to love Santa Fe Baking Co until a little while ago. At that visit, I vowed to have only coffee at future visits, if there were any such visits at all. My visit was for a business meeting, where we planned to have breakfast while discussing a project. I have always appreciated the open concept kitchen, but I really dislike how dirty the place is, or has become. The floor is dirty, the tables are sticky (yuck, don't put your cutlery on the table without a napkin barrier), the cutlery is in dirty and dusty dispensers by the parking lot door. How about moving these closer to a cleaner spot (though it is hard to know where that spot would be)? At this meeting, I was in line to order food and noticed one of the food runners getting something from the fridge in the coffee bar. He was very casual, so I thought he was on break and getting something for himself. Once he retrieved the container (turned out to be yogurt), he went to a deep sink and pulled out a dirty tablespoon. He wiped it on his dirty apron and proceeded to dispense yogurt into a cup. At this point, I still thought it was for himself. To my horror, he took it to a table to accompany the granola that a patron had ordered. I thought for a few seconds about how to respond before I approached the table. It turns out that this was a table of tourists. I told them what I had seen and suggested that they speak with the owner, who I assumed would comp the meal. They decided to leave, instead. I felt bad that a tourist should have a negative experience, as we depend on tourism in Santa Fe. Once I sat down to my coffee and toasted bagel, with prepackaged cream cheese, (I thought this was a safe breakfast alternative, after seeing what I described), I asked to see the owner. He did not arrive for a full 40 minutes (I timed it). When I told him what I had seen, he was nonchalant and gave a weak thank you. That was it. I am also a local business owner and I found this appalling. In my opinion, the "Best of Santa Fe" banners must be pure nepotism at their commercial best. I was there today, only to notice how dirty the self-serve coffee decanters are. I was there first thing in the morning, so this was not accumulation from the day - it was from the day before and probably before that. How much work does it take to clean coffee splatter? It only takes water, you don't even have to use soap. I think that any "coffee at future visits" are on hold for now. Despite this grim review, I really do hope that Santa Fe Baking Co will, literally, clean up their business. Reviews like this are a gift to any business - how else will they know why customers don't return? I would love to return on a regular basis. I would love to support them as a local business. In the meantime, I will go to Dulce Bakery and Coffee, across the street.

I stopped for a late breakfast after a bike ride. Ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito and the chorizo inside of it was cold. I didn't bother to say anything because I was way too hungry to care at the time, I just mixed it up with the rest of the fillings and ate it even though it turned the entire burrito lukewarm. I'm regretting I didn't let them know and hopefully I don't get sick. I probably won't return anytime soon, there are too many great breakfast spots in this town. The coffee was good though.

Stopped in for dinner to-go. I got the fish and chips with an arnold palmer. The fish were nicely breaded and not in humongous strips which I liked. They were pretty flavorful and actually a lot of them, to the point where I couldn't finish it. Fries were frozen crinkle cuts. The chipotle mayo (?) sauce it came with was not very good, I preferred using the ketchup and was sad when I ran out :( My arnold palmer was made from trader joe's lemonade purchased about 100 ft away and at $3.75 I expected it to be .... I dunno, a little better? I pretty much just paid for their carton of lemonade! Anyway, ample seating available and nice lighting if you want to sit and do work. Pastries and coffee are also for sale if you're interested. Service was not that slow when I arrived, but it was only about 6pm and not too many people around.

Locals spot that I've been coming to for years. Get the blue corn pinion pancakes, and you'll love them. The coffee is fresh and organic, and refills are free. There is zero attitude, which is very nice in a town with this many rich tourists.

It had been awhile since I visted SFBC and I was disappointed when I stopped in today. The red Chile was lumpy and watered down. I sent he plate back and asked for green Chile instead. The manager admitted that he noticed the problem in the morning ( but served it anyways?). They sent out another plate with green Chile and it too was thinned out and lumpy. They both tasted like red or green rue. I noticed that other plates coming out of the kitchen with Chile looked the same. Why would they continue to serve that horrible Chile if they new it was bad? This place used to be good but I guess things have changed. If your a Chile lover you will be terribly disappointed like I was.

Two of us picky eaters stopped in here for breakfast the other day. The huge menu offered variety both of us could agree on. I ordered a burger that was cooked medium-rare just as I ordered it-- a rarity (no pun intended) nowadays! Portions were big enough we couldn't finish everything, though we tried as we lingered over free refills and free wifi access. SFBC was an excellent choice!

This is obviously a place where Santa Fe ans come for breakfast. Located in a strip mall outside of the main tourist area but close enough to get there in a couple of minutes. On Sunday morning it was pretty full but with turnover enough to keep a few tables open. We walked up to the register, placed our order then went hunting for the perfect table. We both ordered the breakfast burrito, as I had been told that the "best" one could be found here. I kind of messed up in the ordering as I was asked "smothered or hand held", I went with the latter figuring I could pick it up and eat it. When it came I realized the error of my ways as it was huge and a knife and fork was necessary to attack this monster. Smothering would have been a better option. Unsmothered, however it was quite good. Best??? with so many options who knows what combinations would be required to make it "best". but it was very good none the less. If you are passing through this is a worthwhile side trip for breakfast, lots of options and a chance to see how the locals live! Maybe you can even join in one of the chess games that were going on.

Ummm, I hit this cafe mid-afternoon, and found the offerings to be few. It is a bakery, and obviously sells out its freshly baked goods quickly. It has a worn, funky feel with dark, unswept floors and unmonitored condiment stations. My own tastes lean toward well maintained esablishments. The devil is in the details, so to speak. So I won't visit again.

My fav place for a breakfast burrito smothered in green chile. Or a chicken sandwich with avocado and bacon for lunch. Everything on the menu is so good. The people are super kind - can't say enough good about this place. Wifi etc. dogs allowed on the patio

Great vibe, super friendly staff, and delicious food! We ordered the blue corn pancakes and the pork adovada burrito, and really liked both! Big servings, definitely split an entree unless you're starving.

Great breakfast menu, great cappuccinos, beautiful pastries, high quality good comfort food, great cafe atmosphere with live music. You can tell the locals come here. They also have wifi. A hidden gem that's not easy to find - in the same shopping center as Trader Joes but tucked in a corner. This is a rare spot in Santa Fe for decent food.

I was here twice during my time in SF over summer. The food here is good (not great), but it's great for a hangover breakfast, and portions are extremely generous. Their coffee is fairly typical for brunch joint.

We came here for lunch before a business meeting and I had the soup and salad. The soup was lukewarm, had flour chunks in it and the salad had brown, slimy, shriveled lettuce in it. Latte wasn't bad but food was not good. Come here for coffee and wifi - not food!

We decided to give this place a try for our first dinner in Santa Fe. I ordered the nachos special and they were delicious. They gave me a very large portion for $8.50. My husband ordered the Santa Fe burger and it was also delicious. The service was very slow! Our food took a while to arrive. The atmosphere is a little different. There is a juice bar when you walk in. You walk up to the counter to order. And the place is full of locals on their laptops or reading books. There was even a local radio show taping a show. We would go back.

I had the blue corn pancakes and to be honest I think IHOP does a better job! I paid the $1.00 extra charge for real maple syrup. I guess it was - and it was only a buck. I will compliment them on their coffee - great! One last comment, nothing irritates me more than asking the person who is taking your order a simple question (ie. are the pancakes huge? I would have ordered 2 instead of the 3, the way it comes) and their response, 'I have no idea'. Gees . . . Really?

Great service, great food, excellent coffee, and a pet-friendly patio. What else could you ask for? My husband got the huevos rancheros, which were good, but the carne asada was down right EXCELLENT. Every time we roll into town, we stop here.

Used to be good. Really this place has failed to improve and has somewhat backtracked. Seating is awkward, hard to navigate. Minimal service. My friend's oatmeal was served with rock solid frozen blueberries. My food was not prepared as I ordered it (with no cheese). Oh and they brought her food out 10 minutes before my food. Hello, don't most people want to eat together? Too expensive for lack of service or quality atmosphere. Definitely won't be back anytime soon.

Delicious, Delicious, Delicious! Haven't had anything bad yet. It can be a little on the pricey side, but everything is fresh and well made. If you have a problem with an order, they will fix it, never had bad service here and everyone is super nice!

  • Diana W.

I want to come back!! Fresh pastries everywhere and the place was packed when I went by! I only got a cup of coffee and a fresh baked cookie. The cookie was thick and gooey (chocolate chip walnut) so I'm curious about the rest of the menu!

  • Marie S.

Pastries are really great and really this place is pretty good but not outstanding. The chile is kind of wimpy and sometimes the owners and or wait staff at the counter are nice and sometimes they are grumpy. Overall it's fine if you want a big ass breakfast and need free wifi and endless cups of coffee. I'm kind of a sucker I end up here a lot so I give it a four.

Relatively creative menu for New Mexican food. Excellent red and green chile, whole wheat tortillas, and the bbq beef brisket breakfast burrito have made this my favorite quick breakfast spot in Santa Fe.

  • J T.

They recently switched croissant/ bagel / toast to home fries in some of the breakfast combos. Besides that, large portion, cool decor, nice ambience. Haven't tried anything other than breakfast, so can't say for lunch or dinner.

Little local place in town. While the food is tasty, it takes a while to get it. Also, because the place is relatively small, you feel like you're maneuvering an obstacle course of tables/chairs trying to find somewhere to sit.

This place is breakfast central! I came here twice for breakfast (along with every resident and tourist of SF, it seemed anyway). So it's really crowded here, but after you taste their food you kind of understand why. I ordered the Vegan bowl, which consisted of sauteed veggies, tofu, green chile and rice. It was delicious ! Most of the portions here are very generous, so you could easily share a meal or take the left overs home to eat as a snack later (as I did). SFBC is an Order, Pay, Eat style, where they give you a number and your food is bussed to your table . . . Self serve coffee was ... not bad, but nothing great either. I recommend this place mostly because they have a huge menu so their is something for everyone and although crowded, the staff is really friendly and professional and are always keeping things moving. I enjoyed sitting outside under the umbrellas when I came for breakfast, but they also have a ton of tables inside as well. This is definitely a place to experience when in Santa Fe . . . and although their menu seems intriguing for all meals of the day, I would recommend coming for breakfast, it just seems a little extra special ; ) Did I mention fresh pastries ??? Hmm hmm??

I like the food here but know they are slow so we called ahead and ordered burritos to go in 30min. Forty five minutes later they were not ready. My advice is get food somewhere else if you need it on time.

What can I say. They have good blue corn pancakes (with pine nuts). Ugh. I wish I had more good to say about this place, but I think it is a matter of personal preference. I found the place to be just very worn and just too dirty. Dirty in a way that you just can't wash it off at the end of the day. I know this review will not have any bearing whatsoever on the future existence of SFBC&C, but it's my two cents and I'm gonna share it. If you are at all familiar with the concept of good Feng Shui then you will probably want to steer clear away from this place. It's dark, cruel and dingy like a dungeon. I don't like dungeons but you might. If you are completely oblivious to your surroundings and care not about grimey dirty tables, floors, chairs, walls, etc. then by all means please get some of those delicious blue pancakes and enjoy them for me. The vibe in this place was very upbeat, exciting and communal. I really like the neighborhoody feel of people that know each other and they see each other out drinking coffee and eating breakfast. That is cool! Wandering around me at my table standing over me talking to each other while I'm trying to comfortably eat my blue corn pancakes I do not like. But this is the way it is here. It's like a punk rock pancake house! Bam! Nailed it! This is a place where Anarchy kinda rules and it's a free for all. It's more like a place I would drink a beer and spill half of it on the table and floor while toasting with my punk rock band mates and not a place where I want to wake up with coffee and breakfast. But, it's all about personal preference. I've read all the other reviews on the food and from what I tasted I think that the food is probably really good, hell those pancakes were bomb, so I won't try to deny them that, but in a town like SFe good food is the norm. I really want to give this place three stars but maybe another time. Enjoy, maybe.

Sorry. I know this place is popular. I guess it's because of the free wi-fi or the coffee. But the food? Well. For the prices you'd expect it to be better quality. About the only thing i ever eat there is the so called "smoked turkey" sandwich with "swiss" cheese. It's processed turkey with shredded cheese. Who puts shredded cheese on a sandwich? That said, the bread is ok. I had a bowl of pork green chile stew and it was ok. Actually the frozen stuff at the grocery store is better, but why i'm writing this review is due to this stew. I was ok with it until one bite, nothing but gristle, sinue, and tendon. It felt like i bit into the fluid filled sac, known as bursa, that is between joints like the knees... It was so gross that i left all my food and walked out. Then i was sick for two days. OMG, my friend had chicken strips that, well, because we watch too many food shows, she did the "squeeze" trick and all the grease just came pouring out of the strips. totally inedible. Also, our oder was delivered wrong i like a little cole slaw and she asked for fries. we both got fries. lame. The place is dirty, the floor slick with grease... I have tried this place so many times and can't find ANYTHING i like. I'm sorry guys, I won't be back.

I have been here three times in successive annual visits to Santa Fe, and like it for breakfast. It is quirkily decorated, attracts an extremely diverse local and tourist crowd, and cooks up some very tasty breakfast fare. The staff is friendly, if a little rough around the edges (they also cater to a big biker crowd, who, despite appearances, are unfailingly polite and pleasant people in Santa Fe, at least). Their coffee is good, if not great, and the food, which you order at the counter and wait for them to call your name when it is ready, is consistently delicious. I have had an omelette, their blue-corn pine nut pancakes (outstanding - pay the extra buck for REAL maple syrup, you will not be sorry) and their pitch-perfect breakfast burrito with chorizo and red chile on my latest visit. Their red chile, which they tout as the milder one (the green is supposedly incendiary), still packs quite the punch, so beware if you don't like or cannot eat spicy things. Their wifi is free, does not require a code, and is quite strong (indoors at least). If you do not mind a parking lot view, there is also a nice outside garden with ten or so tables. I will definitely keep coming back!

Stopped by for brunch on Sunday. The organic Mexican coffee was full bodied and flavorful. The pecan waffle, however, was overlooked, crusty and crumbly. And even though I paid extra for the pure maple syrup it tasted like the artificial flavor variety. I hate to say it but As far as the food us concerned, Denny's would have been better.

I'm sorry, I know this place is popular, but it shouldn't be!! FIRST, I was joined by 15 friends, and 12 of them were flies. That in itself made me not want to sit down for a meal. Then, to start off my customer service experience the woman that took my order had headphones in and had to ask her colleague how to make a strawberry banana smoothie.... UHHHH I DON'T KNOW? STRAWBERRIES AND BANANAS?! Also, once my smoothie was made my name was never called, it was just left on the bar counter. The worst part of the whole evening was my meal, I ordered chicken tenders and a plain waffle. I was going for a simple comfort meal. The waffle was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL, it was definitely not fully cooke and definitely tasted like it was made from ingredients that should have been thrown out the day before. They did give me a full refund for the waffle, which was nice. But shouldn't have been required for a pleasant experience. All in all, I'm upset. It was not a good day.

Why is 0 stars not a choice? Could possibly be one of the worst places I've ever eaten at and I love food so it's hard to screw up that bad. How do you mess up steak and eggs? Steak was a thin piece of hard, might have been boiled, unflavored meat that I don't think anyone's dog would even eat. Who sells nasty steaks and doesn't have A1 to help mask that? Potatoes were stale, flavorless, and hard, maybe a day or two old, had to spit out what I couldn't chew; first time in my life with potatoes. Not a place to go for even a semi-quiet meal. They have flags up for voted best every year!!! Don't fall for it, it might have been voted best for its ice water or something I obviously didn't have. Salads are not supposed to be nasty and dry. Definitely a place you can't even pay me to eat at.

What is going on with the chile? This is Santa Fe, not New England. Less flour, more flavor please!! This is the only place I have every had floury, watered down green chile. Tasted horrible. The red tasted more like ketchup than anything.

Our go-to breakfast place when in Santa Fe. Extensive breakfast choices. 3 regular coffee choices and 1 decaf. Lots of window seating and small outdoor seating area available in the warmer months. Parking lot space is limited but available. For breakfast I recommend the breakfast burrito with chorizo option (can be smothered in green or red chilli). The quality of their chorizo here is excellent. Homemade pastries and smoothie bar is also available. The breakfast burrito w/ meat addition is one of their best values - delicious and generously portioned. Most choices are around $8-11 breakfast and $2 for coffee (free refills). Your experience is here is knowing what to order, a little luck with the parking lot (it's free), finding a seat, and service is hit or miss.

Huge menu serving breakfast and lunch all day. order at the counter and they bring you your food. I have had the service be quick, and I have had it take forever. One time they did a lousy job wrapping my burrito--I cried. I like how this place has several vegan options, but also has traditional foods like bacon and eggs and hamburgers. Good lunch spot with a solid cup of coffee. Tip: grab a state employees' newspaper thing in the entrance area of the three state buildings right close to this place. They have buy-one-get-one-free coupons on the last page.

Inconsistent. I've had some of the best food I've eaten in SF and some of the worst here. Hopefully you'll hit them on a lucky day but for the money, it's a great disappointment when it's not a lucky day. And yeah, you have to pretend you don't see how filthy it is.

Need to study? Need some coffee? Need a snack? Don't feel like Starbucks again? Santa Fe Baking Co is a great venue for any or all of those needs. You may have to get there early if you want a table- but you'll be able to study, use the wi-fi and be well cared for while you're there.

Great place! Many items on the menu to choose from. We wanted to go back to try the Blue Corn Pancakes, but didn't make it. The baked goods are delicious! The muffins are huge! We ended up taking some Apple Strudel to go. We got a discount because we bought all they had left. We'll be back!

Breakfast was Amazing! I'm visiting Santa Fe from NY and I'm not a big breakfast fan but this was some delicious food. I recommend the Blue corn pignoli pancakes ($9) were unique and fluffy and flavorful. Home fries had cumin in them (I thinks) and they were really good. Bread and eggs ($8)were also made well. Compared to NY these were very cheap prices especially considering the quality.

Another good meal at the Santa Fe Baking Co. Friendly & Knowledgeable Staff - 5 stars * Helpful with special requests. Good Food - 4 stars (except for the potatoes) * HUGE portions - we could have split * Scrambled eggs - perfectly cooked * Turkey Sausage - just OK. * Red Chili - good, but a bit bland * Green Chili - same * Potatoes - undercooked ;-( * Black Beans - great * Blue Corn Pancakes & Waffles - very good & good texture * Decaf in a mug was fresh & tasty Timeliness - 3 stars (a bit slow this time) * Only half our meal arrived. The other half took much longer. But, we would go back again. PS - parking can get a bit tight. We usually expect on walking from the larger end of the parking lot.

I am a local and have eaten here a handful of times over the years. I have never been impressed with its slow service, sticky tables for four taken up by grungy-looking singles with laptops (and I always need a table for four with my children), or one of the main cooks with his consistent greasy strings of hair hanging in his face. The cooks don't wear hairnets or plastic gloves when cooking, and their cookies taste as if they were bought at the local Sam's Club. However, I could put up with all that when desperate, but not with the food poisoning I contracted after eating one particularly slimy flat bread pesto sandwich made with wilted greens and an unidentifiable cheese during the week before Halloween 2011. Hours later, painful stomach cramps followed by simultaneous vomit and diarrhea were the blessings it took to prevent me from going there ever again.

Yum! One of my fav places to eat in town. I usually get the chicken noodle salad since it tastes good and can get 2-3 meals out of it. This time I tried the BBQ pork tortilla wrap---sooo good!!! It was so tasty and came with crispy fries. Amazing. I find the food very consistent and service is pretty good. They have a ton of seats and can't wait to go back for breakfast.

We have visited Santa Fe Baking Company twice while passing through town, and twice been seriously disappointed. The meals and baked goods we ordered have all proved sub-par, except the breakfast burrito my husband ordered, which he proclaimed decent, and is the only reason I'm not rating this place one star. The place itself is dingy and the service is eggregious. The second time we ate here we ordered our food to-go, and it took just under AN HOUR to arrive. This was not a busy time of day - it was at 4:00 on a Sun afternoon. After the first half hour they told us what we originally ordered was no longer available. Upon reordering I had to stand in line again to do so and then remind the counter service she owed me a $6 difference in price from the meals we had originally ordered, which took her a few tries to disperse. When our food was finally up it sat there for 5 minutes until I interrupted the casual conversation the counter service was having and asked her if she could perhaps hand us our food. My husband's fish was overcooked, my sandwich was disappointing and served with what appeared to be the pile of crumbs at the bottom of a Costco bag of Ridges. When we first visited this place a year ago, it was just as bad, but showed about 4 Yelp stars. I can certainly see why it doesn't have those stars anymore.

Excellent! We came here only because we wanted breakfast on the 4th of July and our favorite place was not open. We will definitely return. Food was excellent, service good, coffee great! Give them a try - I think you will like it

Hands down the best breakfast burrito in town. Ask them to smother it in green and for us vegetarians, they have veggie sausage they can throw in there. Cheap, big and delicious! Added bonus, since they are rather huge, they get better as they sit around so don't worry about wasting food.

Loved the breakfast, fast service, and generous potion sizes, Coffr was selfish. Definitely a casual, funky vibe, bit the food (at least the muffins, granola, oatmeal and yogurt). The fresh fruit plate consisted of only bananas and honeydew, but otherwise a yum-fest.

I decided to go here for breakfast since it had good Yelp reviews, but I'm sad to say it was a pretty disappointing experience. I got so excited when I saw that they had migas on their specials menu. I fell in love with this dish on a trip to Austin last year and hadn't seen anyone making it since. So after waiting a very long time to order and get my food, I nearly cried when I saw what was on the plate. Soggy tortilla strips (supposed to be crispy) with the most under-seasoned eggs I've ever had. The best thing on the plate was the side of pinto beans, which probably came from a can. Maybe they make other things really well (I did get a decent coffee), but this dish was definitely worthy of a 2-star rating. Not horrible or gross, just slightly more disappointing than mediocre. One of my favorite things about New Mexico is the plentiful and amazing local food, so something like this is just not worth eating.

had the turkey avocado on cibatta bread... not bad, not good... just meh. I felt rushed to order and rushed to pay... nobody had a smile on their faces. I loved the art work on the walls... but there are too many other good establishments in Santa Fe to experience, not sure when or if we'll ever come back to this one.

Let's just put it this way...I walked in and there was the grumpiest of old guys who had 3/4 of an already eaten quesadilla and was complaining how it didn't have enough turkey in it. I mean, Santa Fe Baking Co. is not known for being stingy with their portions...and don't you think he would have told them before almost completely devouring his meal so they could fix it? Instead he just wanted to cause a stink, but was fascinated me was how much trouble the owner went to try to make this man happy. He offered to refund his money, buy him a danish or pastry and/give him a coffee on the house. The old just wasn't having any of it...there was no making him happy, but I was impressed at how hard they tried. That's customer service for you...and I will continue to go back for my bagel and cream cheese, or whatever dish I'm feeling at the time, and support great service and great food!

Very disappointed ! New menu looked great. I ordered Lox and bagel priced seemed good , under $6 other places it is $8 +. Well you get what you pay for. First they got my order wrong. When we received the correct order , the bagel was cold, the cream cheese was just a smear and when I say a smear I mean it . Barely any on the bagel. The salmon was terrible , very mushy and was a very un natural pink color. I thought I would give it another try after the last time . But no more , we absolutely will not go back. The food has gone down hill.

During our 3 days stay in Santa Fe, we walked every morning to this place for breakfast. The place has a nice local buzz, reminds me very much of my favorite bakery in Austin, TX, Upper Crust. This place looks to be a place frequented by local Santa Fe people. Lots of regulars hang out and just enjoy food and each other's company. Every time we go here, our fellow diners were friendly. Even when my son accidentally spilled all of his milk on the floor, no one got upset. People at the neighboring table were very understanding. They got a kick of seeing my son's face when he spilled his milk. Food here is good. Pastries were very tempting but I always ended up ordering their hot breakfast. The kids always had their Kiddie Pancake Combo and surprisingly even my 4 years old cleaned most of the food on his plate. Some of the cashiers were quite friendly. One fetched the whole silverware, straws, milk for kids, and napkins for me (these you can get yourself near the condiment station, but he did it for me anyways). The others were not so friendly. On the 2nd day, the cashier pointed me to a place to get the kids' milk. I misunderstood him and I went to the condiment station. When I didn't see milk, I went back to the cashier station. Another cashier said to me: "The milk's over there (he pointed at the juice bar). That's what the other cashier was trying to tell you, mam". Well, I thought that was just a bit rude. He could just said the milk was at the juice bar. Period. Despite all of that, we came back the 3rd morning. Overall, it was a great place to have breakfast.

Sf baking co used to be my favorite place in town, their breakfast burritos to die for....but recently i believe they've gone downhill. Their burritos are subpar and the wait staff is lazy and I'm sad it's gone downhill. Many of my friends agree. Baking co, you're losing your regulars!!!

This is my favorite little cafe in Santa Fe. The food, coffee, atmosphere and scene make it a popular spot for an friendly, eclectic mix of locals and visitors. As you approach the counter to order breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you walk beneath banners hanging from the ceiling, proudly displaying the "Best of Santa Fe" awards won throughout the years. Look to your right to be tempted by delicious baked goods that are a great compliment to the fresh brewed gourmet coffee. Soft north light illuminates the cafe through large windows and the work of local artists adds to the creatively inspiring vibe. They have free wireless internet with a good fast connection so it's a great place for independent professionals to do a little business while sipping a good cup of coffee. I enjoy everything on their menu but today I had the Chile-Philly Steak Sandwich. Grilled wafer-thin rib-eye steak slices, cheese, New Mexico green chile and fried onions on a bolillo roll. From the nice list of sides, I chose the potato salad. Delicisous!

I've been here 3 times, and have enjoyed each visit. The location is closer to downtown, walking distance to Trader Joes, and a few other stores in the shopping center. The atmosphere kinda puts me off, it's cramped, dark, usually crowded, hard to do any kind of work. Has free wi-fi, and the hot cocoa is stellar, and nicely priced at $2 for a large. The food is decent, burritos are good, fries, not so much. Very much frozen fries dumped in a fryer. Parking can be a pain, but the location is pretty central. Good place to meet people, have brunch with friends, but not somewhere to do Internet work for the atmosphere is not peaceful or relaxing.

I think this place sucks and don't get all the hype. I've avoided it for years, but last week I had friends in from out of town and thought we'd give it a try. The staff is surly, the food is overpriced and pretty generic and the overall ambiance reminds me of all the crappy diners in the Mission of San Francisco. My $9.00 waffle was bland and tasted like it came out of the toaster. Add the cheap butter they give you in the generic tinfoil, and it's pretty disappointing. I wouldn't go back and would say you're way better off at Aztec Cafe, Downtown Subscription, or the Flying Star.

The staff has vibrant personalities (a must if you are serving people before they get their caffeine fix) and their food is delectable. In the two times that I visited, I always ordered takeout. Their Mexican coffee is amazing, has a deep and smoky flavor to it if that's your thing. The almond croissant was HUGE, and perfect sized if you're an almond aficionado like me. The second time I went, I ordered another flavored coffee (midnight something? can't remember. but it didn't tantalize my taste buds like the first time). I also ordered the green chili croissant, which surprisingly didn't burn my tongue like the rest of New Mexican food. I definitely recommend this place for breakfast.

Great neighborhood spot. Bring your laptop, settle in and enjoy your time here. No one hurries you, staff is super friendly and the menu is extensive. Food was great, well prepared and delivered with a smile. If your staying in this part of town, it's a great stop

Okay, we were in Santa Fe for a week and we visited the Santa Fe Baking Co. and Cafe a total of four times. That's how good (and cheap!) it was. Everyone is very friendly there and we loved the casual (but fun!) atmosphere. The Santa Fe Baking Co. is located near the end of a strip mall (with a Trader Joe's on the opposite end). Parking is very limited near the restaurant itself because of the way the parking lot is angled (and there are reserved spots for surrounding businesses), so you may have to park further out in the lot (but at least it's still free!). Our first visit involved just a mid-morning coffee break. I was impressed that I was given a cup and could fill up my cup (as many times as I wanted) from a choice of FOUR different blends. Wow. Talk about variety. The menu looked so good, that we decided to return for lunch that same day. I was set on what I was going to order, based on their listing of four soups of the day (again, more variety!): Green Chile Pork Stew. It sounded heavenly. Unfortunately, when we returned for lunch, it was already erased from the menu. I went with my 2nd choice, which was the Santa Fe Quesadilla, made with chicken, fresh basil, sun-dried tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and blue cheese. It was then that I discovered that my quesadilla also came with a side item (one of which could be a choice of soup!). I opted for my 2nd favorite soup of the day, which was Potato Corn Chowder. The quesadilla was HUGE; I gave a third of it to a friend of mine who only ordered soup. A cup of soup at the Santa Fe Baking Co. is the size of what some restaurants consider a bowl of soup. It was a lot of food for very little price. The flavors within the quesadilla were awesome, and the potato corn chowder was creamy and flavorful as well. They were two excellent back-up choices to the Green Chile Pork Stew. Our third visit was for a late, light lunch around 3:00 p.m. Hot soup was calling us on what was a cold, November day. There were only three choices of soup left, one being Cream of Broccoli, which was what I picked. After I ordered and sat down, I was informed they had run out of cream of broccoli soup. :( I went with some beef brothy soup as my alternate. It was okay, but I really had my heart set on a creamy soup. My advice to Santa Fe Baking Co: make more soup so it lasts throughout the whole day! Our fourth and final visit was on our last morning in Santa Fe. We went for breakfast (they open REALLY early, by the way). We were now officially regulars, as the employees recognized and greeted us appropriately. I was going to order a breakfast burrito with sausage for $5.95 plus coffee when we noticed that they were having a special that morning for a breakfast burrito with bacon and coffee for $7. Sounded good to me! And it definitely was. The ingredients within the burrito (scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, bacon, fried potatoes, and green chile) all blended together to form this creamy, delicious, spicy mixture. It was the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. For the food quality, number of selections, pricing, and portions that can't be beat, I highly recommend Santa Fe Baking Co. for breakfast and lunch. Just go very early in the day if you want your choice of soups!

The SF Baking Co. and Cafe has a wide variety of pastries. It took me about 15 minutes before I finally settled on a pumpkin muffin. As it turns out, it was an excellent choice. A cup of coffee was an obvious choice to pair with my warm treat. Their Mexican blend was nice, smooth, and unlimited. They had three other brews to choose from. In addition, all of the employees whom I spoke to were friendly and extremely helpful (directions to an out-of-towner anyone?). They all seemed happy to be there, which is always a nice, and yet rare, sight to see. Free wi-fi, tasty pastries with coffee, a nice patio, and happy employees...what more can you ask for? Oh, and I forgot to mention that they also have salads, soups, sandwiches, and smoothies for very good prices. It just keeps getting better and better...

Used to be fun, haven't been there in years. Dirty! Don't look at the ceiling it's held up with tape. Pretty rude guys at the cash regester. They messed up, our order, and we were reprimanded! Never ever again! Raw pancakes for the child, no bacon In the burrito... Guess they are doing us a favor, so sorry to be so picky...

Happy Tummy! I was charmed as soon as I saw the happy faces of the people on the patio and the greaty artsy vibe inside. My opera diva friend is a gregarious regular, so she knows practically everyone behind the counter. She recommended a few things including the breakfast burrito, but as soon as I saw the chilaquiles on the specials board, I was sold, even as I walked past the case of ginormous fresh pastries. We got our food and found a table in the bottom at the back. There was a guy on the guitar in the front of the place - just loud enough to be entertaining but mellow enough for a lazy Saturday morning - nice touch. We got our food quickly - everything looked so good! The chilaquiles were delicious as were the accompanying potatoes. The art on the walls and the free wi-fi makes you want to settle in for the day, and with plenty of table space and the cozy vibe, it looked like many people there were planning on doing just that. Would have worked for me, but I had some sightseeing to do!

Frito Pie heaven! Being a vegetarian I do miss the occasional meaty indulgence including the ever elusive Frito Pie. However Santa Fe Baking Company comes to the rescue with a delicious veggie chili topped delight. A perfect balance of fritos, cheese, chili, and red and green toppers makes this the go to place in Santa Fe. The baked goods are very yummy as we shared a huge big as your face piece of apple pastry. The line can get long particularly at weekend brunch time. There was live music when we went, and the tables can get to be at a premium. However for the wonderous frito pie...I would eat it sitting on Dick Cheney's Lap!

I went here a LOT on a vacation last summer. My friends who used to live nearby love it, but I don't really get the appeal. The ambiance is funky and fun, and you can refill your own coffee (super choice). But aside from the pastries, the food was disappointing. Chile sauce is the lynch pin of the cuisine around here, and this place had some of the worst I've tried. The green chile was a bland, beige slop with some green flecks in it. It was all roux and no flavor. Compare it to Maria's or Horseman's and there's no contest. And it's not even that much cheaper. The stuff under the sauce (burritos, eggs, etc.) was decent greasy-spoon fare, but nothing special.

Chile should have flavor. Put some cumin in the chile and I'm a happy girl. I'll oooh and ahhh and exclaim my love for the chile. I had the Huevos Rancheros with red and green (christmas, for the locals) and both chiles were excellent. The black beans were a little under cooked. I drooled a smidge on the bakery display counter. Muffins, crispy, powdered sugar covered pastries, cheesecake with blueberries slowly dripping off the side. This place has a nice energy, to use the vernacular of Santa Fe. The food is good, just looking at the bakery items elicited a mini-O and the people who work there seem genuinely happy. What's not to like?

Great comfort food whether your looking for coffee and pastry's or huevos rancheros! I had it all and was not disappointed. Hard to choose a pastry because they all look so good. Long lines at times but worth the wait!

My husband and i spent our honeymoon in Sante Fe & actually went to Santa Baking company twice during our 6 days. The service was responsive and fast & the food was hands down the best we experienced in a city filled with incredible things to eat! this is a MUST DO in Santa Fe.

Four words: Carne Adovada Breakfast Burrito I really haven't explored much beyond their burritos here because once I find something on the menu that I can't get enough of I never really look back. My wife swears by the Cowboy Bowl though (which has eggs, potatoes, green chile, beans, etc). Anyway, Santa Fe Baking Company is one of my two favorite spots to grab a bite to eat in the morning in Santa Fe, though I might stick to take-out from here on the weekends. If you're dining in I highly recommend avoiding weekend mornings unless you're a fan of crowds (which I'm decidedly not). For one thing the tables, if you can find an open one at all, are crowded a little too close together for my taste especially in the lower section. Also they seem to have trouble keeping the coffee urns full when they're really busy.

You can not go to Santa Fe without a stop at Santa Fe Baking Co. Everything on the menu is tasty. The coffee is fresh and delicious. We split an amazing pastry before our breakfast sandwich and burritos- which are huge by the way. The chorizo in my breakfast burrito was to die for. Making excuses for another trip to Santa Fe as I write...

I used to love this place, but as of late the quality of both service and food has gone downhill. Several times My father and I have had to actually go up and ask for our food after waiting over 30 minutes for burgers while the other half of our table has their food. And when it comes out it is not worth the wait at all.

Sandwiches were a bust. Stopped by for to-go ham and turkey sandwiches. Both had low quality pressed meat. Ham and Swiss had shredded cheese in the middle. Who makes a sandwich with shredded cheese that isn't melted/toasted? "Fresh" oatmeal chocolate chip cookies were blah and dry. Unfortunately, these disappointing and expensive sandwiches were not opened until too far down road to return for refund. Skip the sandwiches.

Santa Fe Baking Co. is a must whenever we are in Santa Fe. The Blue Corn pancakes are the best pancakes I have ever had and I am a bit of a Pancake snob. I like the slightly chaotic college dininghall feel to the place. The staff is great and efficient. Don't be afraid to bus a table yourself if there isn't a clean table and show some class when you leave and take your dishes to one of the stations. I haven't tried the juice bar yet but that will have to wait for my next visit.

Got coffee here today. It was packed with a bustling late Sunday morning crowd- mostly locals I think, already a good sign! There seemed to be a great energy to the place. I'm picky about my coffee, but I was pretty happy with what I got. There were several brews to choose from and I was pleased to find that at least one was freshly brewed and, most importantly, HOT. Free refills too!

Haven't been here in forever but was excited to have Saturday brunch. Was with my mom and 6mos. old son, great place for him to be entertained, extremely lively. The live music was great. I had the wrap special that was delish with some great coffee. My mom had a chicken Caesar that she liked and was big enough to take home for dinner as well. Def will be back the next time I'm in Santa Fe.

I like it. Really I do. This very popular Santa Fe hangout is an incredibly popular place. And that may be its downfall for me. They always have a line for their good food, and they do New Mexican pretty darn well. They have the local college radio station broadcast from there during the week. There are always a slew of people with laptops, and they are even cool enough to have a Linux machine for those who didn't bring a laptop but would like to check mail anyhow. It is a place to "be seen". But that is usually why I avoid it. Trying to get work done there is hard. Lots of loud conversations, music, noise, yelling orders, etc. The coffee is good but I wouldn't call it great. So to summarize, a nice place. Fun to check out once in a while. The free Internet and the good food (and the OK atmosphere) are all pluses, But, if you want to relax with some sense of privacy and quiet, this may not be the perfect place.

This was such a cute and quirky little place and I came twice during my trip to Santa Fe. I had a tour guide book which said that they had blue corn pancakes here and I wanted to try those. When I got to the place I was told that they no longer sold those since they were under new management. As a subtitution I ordered banana pancakes which were pretty decent. The second time I went I had a chai. This is no sugar-filled fake chai, it tasted like the real deal. And the people who frequent that place are friendly. One older woman approached me and said I looked like a model. It really made my day.

A good place to visit whether you're passing through Santa Fe or a resident. Good food, pretty good coffee, and excellent pastries. Free wireless along with some linux terminals scattered around. It can be crowded. You see everyone from the hippies to the families with kids to the grandmas to the yuppies. Their veggie burger is one of the best I've had.

Santa Fe Baking Co is a bit noisy to work at, but it's a huge bustling place that has decent coffee, good food, and good smoothies. The staff are friendly, and wander the space yelling out people's names as they look to deliver orders. It seems like all of Santa Fe comes here for lunch on a daily basis.

  • Dan W.

Have tried this place twice now. Reading the reviews, I can hardly believe it is the same restaurant. We had baked goods for breakfast and were shocked how poor they were. I can only assume they were baked two days ago; they certainly were not fresh. The cinnamon roll was badly dry but edible. The blueberry scone was inedible it was so dry. After a very poor lunch here, I don't know we will give them a third chance.

so-so coffee, so-so pastries and New Mexican food items.. the place is sometimes sort of dirty and the staff is not all that friendly.. Kind of a good place to hang out and study I guess, but the view is of a parking lot, so how charming can that be?? I went here several times over the course of the last 4 years simply because I lived nearby until Nov 2010 and this is a place which friends would often choose as a place to meet, but it would never be my preference for sure.. In addition parking is somewhat of a hastle because this is located in a corner of the parking lot where the parking lot becomes rather narrow and sometimes it is difficult to maneuver around the other notoriously unattentive Santa Fe drivers..

Spent two nights in Santa Fe on our trip and ate breakfast here both mornings, and not just because it was close to where we were staying! Great big menu with tons of choices, I had a breakfast burrito one day which was huge and tasty and eggs and a muffin the next which did not dissapoint! Fun staff, great style but PACKED on the weekends!

Not bad, not great. Seems like an old standby type place that locals go to. The coffee is pretty bad. They take what are probably decent beans and make something really harsh. I can usually choke it down but it is pretty bad. The baked goods are mostly pretty good. Cookies are ok, but the apple pastry is stellar. The food seems good, I've only had the heuvos rancheros with red and green and it was really good. Also the place has free wifi too. So all in all not bad for food, some baked goods, and meals. Try to avoid the coffee.

The potato salad was bad (it was ~flavorless potatoes, with barely enough mayo to stick together and a negligible amount of onion). The chili dog (TX style chili) was really expensive for its size and ingredients. The carne adovada was ok, but bland. They were out of many of the things I wanted to try, most notably their Frito pie. I won't be back.

Interesting little bakery/sandwich shop. Seems like it is always packed for lunch so you really have to scout out a table and pounce when you find it! I don't think ordering at a register and giving your name is the most efficient setup either - you constanlty see the waitresses wandering around looking for "John" or "Dave". Having a unique name (no, Jay is not my full name obviously) I thought I was ok. It honestly took over a half hour to get my turkey club! Everyone else was nearly done with their meal before I was even served mine. But it was good as was the apple strudel I was forced to eat before my sandwich arrived (since they hand it to you at the register). Wish I had some more opportunities to eat here to try the various offerings but I was only in town for a short while.

I nice, spacious cafe with free WiFi... Cha-cha-cha-cha-Ching! These places are gems in every city. Even if outside of the downtown in a strip mall. I had a latte which was decent. Not the best coffee I have ever had, but not the worst. My sweetie had a chai which was good, and her mom had a cappuccino which gets the same rating as my coffee. Good, but not great... just being honest. I had a chocolate chip cookie was good and fresh. The regular type of coffee shop cookie. They have a good sized menu of food, and glancing around (as I am sitting in the place while writing this) they food looks good. Big portions and fun. But Free WiFi. Sweet! The people seem like your mix or professionals, youngens, and artists. The usual coffee shop/ cafe fare. cheers!

This establishment has been around for ages and has a reputation as being somewhat of a local artist's hangout after they sleep off their hangovers or whatever... I'm partial to their breakfast burritos and soups of the day, but most everything is good. I do ding it two stars because I'm a firm believer of not having to be all that friendly to other people until i've actually eaten my first meal of the day... And if you go here and know a lot of locals, you're expected to be civil... Nope, not my game. Give me my food and I'm fine, but before I eat that first bite, i'm prone to be a bit rude.

One of the finest coffee houses I've had the pleasure of frequenting. The place has phenomenal coffee, a fine staff (one of them cute enough to launch a thousand ships) and a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. I use and abuse coffee houses to work on writing projects. In November I wrote a novel within their walls.

Great place to see and be seen. Especially on Sunday mornings, especially if you want to try to convince everyone that you aren't that hungover...no really, you aren't. The proximity to the strip mall always kind of confused me, but many a Sunday was spent here noshing out and chatting with folk about the night previous. I always got the Breakfast Burrito, which is yummy and huge. Lots of people I knew swore by the burgers and fries. We all agree though, stay away from the frito pie - though hopefully you didn't need me to tell you that.

A true microcosom of Santa Fe. The people are of this world, but not. The nature in the surrounding mountains has affected everything about these people. They are happy, content and blessed to be able to wake up each day with the dessert in their backyards. Oh, and the coffee was delicious, too.

I just joined Yelp after a terrible experience here that I would like to share. If you like inattentive help that would rather interact with each other than wait on you, - then you'll love this place. Also, if you like ridiculously small portions of desert - let's make that INSULTINGLY small portions at high prices - then you'll REALLY love this place. And if you question the size - you'll receive a very terse, uncaring answer. I've been here 2 times - my first and my last. Don't waste your money on their overpriced (for the size) baked goods. They were good, but that doesn't make up for their total lack of customer service and care. Flying Star is as good or better and they don't treat you like shit!

So I've lived in Santa Fe for about a month, but only really got paid for the first time today. This has limited my going-out options considerably, but on mornings when you're running on very little sleep, a skim-milk latte is about as luxourious as an epi pen if you're allergic to beestings, so I have checked out the local coffee shops. The Santa Fe Baking Co. is right up the street from me and great. It has a very local, funky vibe and it's small but still gives you a lot of places to sit down. The coffee is good and the breakfast burrito (full of New Mexico's famous green chiles) is amazing. With free wireless and a groovy waitstaff, this will definitely be a hangout of mine in the months to come.

Don't go here for dinner, but for a breakfast lunch place, this place hits the spot. Excellent food, free wireless. Watch out for crowds of locals since it isn't the biggest place, and during the winter theres no patio availability.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
